Opportunity Overview

Youth STEM Changemakers gives young people the chance to build impactful STEM solutions to the world's biggest sustainability challenges 🌍  Our Entrepreneurs for Impact (Scotland) edition will equip 30 youth aged 16-24 from across Scotland with the skills, tools and networks to develop ambitious and innovative STEM-based projects, creating entrepreneurial solutions to real-world sustainability challenges.  We've got an exciting opportunity for 2 facilitators to support our Core Team to deliver the in-person Launch Weekend of the programme taking place in Glasgow on 27th & 28th January 2024.

Facilitator Role Description

  • Bring your unique experience (lived and learned!) to our facilitation team to create a safe, fun, inclusive and welcoming environment for participants

  • Support participants to take part in a way which is accessible to and meaningful for them

  • Be responsible for the agenda flow, timekeeping, framing, and wrapping up of the sessions as well as managing the energy of the group

  • Join our preparatory and debrief calls to ensure you are fully aligned with the facilitation team and do any preparation necessary for your sessions

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Must have previous in-person facilitation experience, ideally including experience facilitating or working with diverse groups of young people who are marginalised and underrepresented in STEM and entrepreneurship (including, but not limited to: disabled young people, BIPoC (Black, Indigenous & People of Colour) youth, women, girls & gender minorities, LGBTQ+ youth, refugees & asylum seekers, young carers, care experienced young people, rural youth, low-income youth).

  • Committed to Youth STEM 2030’s mission and values, with an unwavering belief in the power of young people as STEM changemakers, innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders

  • Able to recognise and adapt to the needs of the group and individuals within it, to ensure all participants can participate in a way which is accessible to and meaningful for them

  • Understanding of the vital role of safeguarding, and committed to fostering a culture of safety, underpinned by Youth STEM 2030’s safeguarding policies and procedures

  • Some experience in one or more of the following: entrepreneurship, tackling global sustainability challenges, youth-led change, developing STEM-based solutions

  • Membership of the PVG Scheme (if you selected but are not already a member, we can help administer this for you at a cost of Β£72 - this will be deducted from the compensation detailed below).

Time Commitment & Compensation

You will need to be available for an overall time commitment of ~2.5 days in January/February 2024, including:

  • Preparation & debrief: 0.5 days

  • Facilitation: 2 days

The compensation for this role is Β£625.00.  Youth STEM 2030 will pay for reasonable travel (within Scotland), accommodation and subsistence costs incurred in accordance with our expenses policy.

Key Dates

Our call for applications for facilitators will be open from 19th December 2023 - 8th January 2024 (5pm GMT), with interviews for shortlisted candidates on 10th-12th January.  We’re looking for applicants with availability for the following dates:

  • Briefing Call (via Zoom): week beginning 15th January

  • In-person event: 27th & 28th January

  • Debrief Call (via Zoom): week beginning 29th January
