Youth STEM 2030 Grows to Hire Four New Core Team Members

We’re thrilled to announce that, following our call for applications earlier this year, and a competitive recruitment process, we’re welcoming 4 new members to the Youth STEM 2030 Core Team!

This incredible group of people are joining our mission as part of our Core Team, our paid team of staff & consultants who lead our strategy and operations, enabling us to grow our impact and expand our programmes to empower a generation of STEM changemakers for a more sustainable future.  We’re excited to introduce you to...

  • Ayomide Oshinjo, Partnerships & Programmes Officer: With a background in business and life sciences, Ayomide excels at leading strategic initiatives and managing diverse stakeholders for organisational outcomes.  In his previous roles, he has built and fostered engagements across industry, academia, and government.  His work has straddled cross-functional areas in sectors ranging from healthcare to education and technology.  Now, he is channelling this expertise to create and strengthen meaningful partnerships at Youth STEM 2030.

  • Alana Scott, Youth STEM Matters Programme Officer & Communications Lead: As the director of a conservation non-profit, Alana has experience managing rewilding projects, leading a business, and communicating science, a skill which she has also utilised in her past role as editor-in-chief of a local nature magazine.  Now, Alana is combining these skills to lead the development and distribution of the next print edition of Youth STEM Matters, themed around Nature-Based Solutions.

  • Sophiyat Sadiq, Youth STEM Summit Programme Officer: Having started her career teaching girls how to code and create blogs, Sophiyat has since driven systemic change as a policy fellow at Global Citizen, where she worked on key projects addressing education and girls empowerment.  She advocates for digital inclusion and successfully helped the United Nations agency for tech expand its youth strategy to 13 new African countries.  Now, she is combining this experience to coordinate the 2023 Youth STEM Summit as an empowering event that drives meaningful action and participation of young people in STEM for good.

  • Jeremiah Thoronka, Youth STEM Changemakers Programme Officer: Jeremiah’s experience spans clean energy systems, promoting locally sustainable solutions, and youth involvement in the SDGs.  An innovator and entrepreneur, Jeremiah has brought free electricity to 150 households and 15 schools in his hometown, and he holds a MSc in Sustainability, Energy, and Development and a BA Hons in Global Challenges.  This changemaking experience and deep understanding of sustainability enables him to effectively equip other youth with the tools to make lasting impact through Youth STEM Changemakers.

Selected from 551 applicants based in 82 countries worldwide, we also want to say a huge thank you to every person who applied to join our team - we are incredibly grateful to receive so many amazing applications and it was very powerful to see so many people from all walks of life share our passion for empowering a generation of STEM changemakers.

It’s beyond exciting to be welcoming such an incredible group of people in Ayomide, Alana, Sophiyat and Jeremiah - who are all young changemakers in their own right - onboard to accelerate our mission.  They’re each bringing a wealth of experience and new approaches to our team, and are already growing our impact through developing new programmes, making our operations more sustainable and forging partnerships with values-aligned organisations.  We’ve got some big challenges in our world, and bigger ambitions to empower youth as STEM changemakers to solve them, but there are so many new possibilities with this incredible group of people joining the Core Team!
