Research Conference
The 2023 Youth STEM Matters Research Conference brought together 733 youth based in 80 countries globally on Saturday 29th July, to be inspired, gain skills and take action for a more sustainable future as STEM researchers & innovators! 🚀
The Research Conference was packed with inspiring talks, skills workshops, opportunities and a celebration of youth researchers & innovators tackling global challenges, featuring 30 speakers and 24 STEM-based projects by 33 youth in our biggest Research Showcase to date.

Anesu, a 23 year old from Zimbabwe, is increasing access to STEM education by creating a STEM club for youth in their community
Amina, a 16 year old from Kazakhstan, is improving water quality through a research project on a new hydrogel that helps adsorb heavy metal ions from water
Gamila, a 21 year old from Egypt, is reducing the local environmental impacts of tourism by creating an app encouraging clean and greener eco-tourism
Kai, a 15 year old from USA, is helping strengthen their local community by starting STEM-based volunteering

100% strongly agree that they feel more empowered to continue their journey creating a more sustainable world as a youth researcher/innovator after being part of the Research Showcase
This was the first time 87% had a global platform to share their SDGs-aligned STEM project
Participants report an average of 7.5 different skills developed, including science communication, creative thinking, leadership & social influence and motivation & self-awareness
Impact beyond the Research Showcase: 87% now plan to submit their projects to be published in Youth STEM Matters, advancing global scientific progress for the SDGs
