Community Updates: March 2022
Our global community of youth here at Youth STEM 2030 are tackling the world’s biggest challenges through science, technology, engineering and maths, creating a real impact across all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Here’s how some of them have been changing the world lately…
Danielle Needs Your Vote!
18 year old Founder of STEAM Connection, Danielle Boyer was a 2021 Youth STEM Summit Speaker and is now in the top 6 in the Green Awards Youngster Category, by Greentech Festival. The award recognises young people making a lasting sustainable impact, and Danielle’s doing just that, having invented Every Kid Gets a Robot (EKGAR), a project helping kids learn about robotics using recycled materials!
To make it into the next round of judging, Danielle needs your vote!
Poppy & Arushi Selected For UNICEF UK’s Youth Advisory Board
Youth STEM Summit Design Team member Poppy Fairbairn, and Youth STEM Matters Volunteer Team member Arushi Rastogi have been chosen to be a part of the UNICEF Youth Advisory Board for the UK. They join another 6 young people helping UNICEF UK by being a voice for the rights of children, providing insight about the concerns that children and young people have and what matters to them and helping raise awareness to other young people so they can understand what kind of work UNICEF does to help children.
With Arushi having heard about this opportunity through Youth STEM 2030, we’re especially pleased to be connecting youth with opportunities to influence change both in Youth STEM 2030, and beyond! Well done Poppy & Arushi!
Samantha & Ruvarashe Collect National Science Fair Awards!
The winners of the 2022 Zimbabwe Science Fair have been revealed and our own Youth STEM Matters Volunteer Team & Alumni members Samantha Kaseke & Ruvarashe Moyo are on the award winners list!
Samantha got several awards including the VC^2 Award and the ASM Materials Education Foundation Award, and both Samantha and Ruvarashe will represent Zimbabwe as Regeneron ISEF Finalists!
Congratulations to both for their wins, and good luck at ISEF!
Aimee Spends International Women’s Day at UN Thailand’s Ambassador for a Day Initiative
During International Women’s Day, Armida Alisjahbana, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, gave Youth STEM Matters Volunteer Team member Aminta Permpoonwiwat the chance to shadow her for the UN Thailand Ambassador For A Day initiative! There were discussions that focused on how young people can do their part in addressing regional challenges, and Aminta described the experience as an “unforgettable opportunity”.
We can imagine it was a very exciting opportunity for Aminta!

In celebration of International Women’s Day, 2020 Youth STEM Summit Speaker Apoorva Panidapu is auctioning her portrait of Maya Angelou, who was an activist, author, actor, screenwriter, dancer, composer and the first Black woman director.
