Youth STEM 2030 Joins SDG Publishers Compact

We’re excited to share that Youth STEM 2030, alongside hundreds of other organisations around the world, is now a signatory of the SDG Publishers Compact: a series of objectives created by the United Nations for publishing groups to accelerate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As SDG Publishers Compact signatories, we’re reaffirming our commitment to the SDGs - which are already core to our work - both in the articles we publish in Youth STEM Matters (our youth-led scientific journal) and our publication supply chain.

The Compact contains 10 “action points” which we as a publisher can strive towards so that the SDGs can be achieved by 2030.  These include…

  • (1) Committing to the SDGs: we’re an organisation founded on the idea that young people should have a platform to express and discuss their ideas on how to improve things for everyone, with the SDGs providing a blueprint for a better world.

  • (2) Actively promoting and acquiring content: Youth STEM Matters, our youth-led scientific journal, publishes articles written by young people focussing on issues and solutions linked to the SDGs, so we’re already leading the way on this one!

  • (8) Collaborating across cities, countries, and continents: the team at Youth STEM Matters comprises young people from all walks of life, and spans nearly 30 countries in 6 continents, including Canada, Nigeria, Singapore, the UK, El Salvador, and India, just to name a few.

With our first ever print edition of Youth STEM Matters currently at the printers ahead of being published later this month, we’re already putting our commitments into action by ensuring that sustainability is central to its production. We’re excited to be working with a printer - Park Communications Ltd - which shares our focus and drive for a more sustainable world, so that we can give youth a platform, sustainably.

Youth STEM 2030 Founder & CEO, Mhairi McCann, had this to say about becoming a SDG Publishers Compact Signatory:

As a youth-led organisation, we’re proud to be joining the SDG Publishers Compact and driving progress for the SDGs in scientific publishing, alongside publishers and industry leaders from around the world. Joining the SDG Publishers Compact represents the next step in our journey in creating an accessible platform for the world’s youth, while leading innovative practice in scientific publishing, and through our upcoming Youth STEM Matters print edition, we’re already putting these commitments into action!
