Speak at the 2021 Youth STEM Summit
The 2021 Youth STEM Summit is taking place on 27th & 28th November, and we want to give YOUth a platform!
Whether you want to share your journey in STEM, raise awareness of an issue you care about, or showcase your work to make a difference, this could be the perfect opportunity for you - read on to find out how to apply!
Who can apply?
All young people aged 24 & under can apply to speak at the Youth STEM Summit. We want to give a platform to diverse voices and issues from around the world. Especially, we want to help amplify voices that don’t always get to be heard, so whether you’ve spoke at lots of events before, or this is your first time, we want to hear from you.
What can I speak about?
We want to give a platform to a wide range of topics and issues at the Youth STEM Summit. So long as your topic links to at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we’d like to hear from you!
Session Formats
We’ve got 4 different session formats, and you can indicate which one(s) you prefer in our application form. Please note that we can’t guarantee accommodating every preference, but if your application is selected, we’ll confirm the date, time, format and any other speakers.
Talk
A 10-15 minute talk, with (optional) use of slides and audience questions.
Q+A
Spend 10-15 minutes sharing your journey & advice for youth by answering audience questions (moderated by a member of our team).
Lightning Talk
A 6 minute talk about a local or global challenge, an issue you care about, or a solution you have created.
Panel
A discussion between several people on a specific theme, facilitated by a panel chairperson.
How to Apply
Our application form has 3 main parts: About You; What you want to speak about; and Why you want to speak about it.
About You
Tell us a bit about yourself - this could include how you spend your time, what your interests in STEM are, and the issues you're passionate about. Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters.
This section can all be completed in a range of formats. You can type straight into the application form, or, if you'd prefer, you can record your answers by video, create a poster or write a song/poem (or something else!). If answering in an alternative format, please indicate so in the form and send your responses to mhairi@youthstem2030.org before the advertised deadline.
What do you want to speak about at the Youth STEM Summit? Tell us in a 60 second video!
Here, you’ll be asked to provide a link to a 60 second video (uploaded to YouTube (unlisted is fine!), Vimeo, WeTransfer, or similar) of you telling us about the topic you wish to present at the Youth STEM Summit.
Don’t worry about the film quality or fancy equipment - recording yourself on a mobile phone is fine.
Top tip: Don’t go over the 60 second time limit!
Why You?
Why do you want to be part of the Youth STEM Summit, and why do you want to speak about your chosen topic at it? Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters.
Why is this topic important, and why are you the right person to speak about this topic? Maybe it's something you have done some research on, it's an issue you have personal experience of, or perhaps you just care a lot about it! Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters.
