Meet Our Newest Member of the Youth STEM 2030 Team!
Hey there! My name is Lewis, and I’m the new Communications and Administration Officer at Youth STEM 2030. I’m very excited to be given the opportunity to encourage young people to help push for positive change in the world, and take up careers in STEM. I’m a 19 year old from (not so sunny) Scotland. The reason I applied for this role is due to my fascination and concern with many of the issues raised in the world today, and how STEM subjects could offer a solution to these issues. I feel very passionate about this role, but outside of it, I’m also interested in vexillology (the study of flags), geography and world events.
As Communications and Administration Officer, it’s my role to find the best way of portraying STEM and the amazing work young people around the world are doing to use STEM to create a better world. I know there's a major importance in how STEM is communicated to and perceived by young people, so that we can tackle issues like climate change, poverty and inequalities. To do this, I’ll be the one responsible for creating the content for Youth STEM 2030’s social media pages, the newsletter (subscribe here if you’re not already!) as well as publishing and promoting our latest articles written for Youth STEM Matters by our amazing authors.
My main strengths are in English, Modern Studies and Business Management, which I studied while I was at school. So while I may not personally be the person to put on a lab coat to do science experiments, or enjoy doing long equations for maths, in this role I can communicate STEM in a way that will inspire and empower others to use STEM to make a difference. If I, alongside the team here at Youth STEM 2030, can achieve the goal of helping influence others that a career in STEM is suited and viable for them and that they can be the changemakers the world needs right now, then I would consider my time here to be worthwhile.
I’m excited for this role as I’ll be gaining a lot of experience (it’s my first real job!), and I can’t wait to meet everyone who is part of our projects, as volunteers or participants, over the course of my time here!
