Youth STEM 2030’s Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is affecting young people globally, so we wanted to update everyone on how this will affect what we do here at Youth STEM 2030…

How our existing work is affected:

  • Our youth led science journal, Youth STEM Matters remains open for submissions - we know lots of young people will be gutted to have missed out on STEM competitions/events, so we’re more determined than ever to showcase your amazing projects! Find out how to submit your research, ideas and innovations here.

  • Applications to join the Youth STEM Matters team of volunteers also remain open - our entire team works remotely as standard, so if you’re looking for some science volunteering that you can do from home, this is the perfect opportunity for you! More information and apply here.

What we are doing to help:

  • As Youth STEM 2030’s Founder, I’ve started a crowdfunder, so we can allow young people who have missed out on their STEM competitions and science fairs submit their work to Youth STEM Matters free of charge (usually there is a $10 (~£8) subsidised fee for Original Research & Review Article submissions to cover costs). Donations of all sizes will really make a difference, and if you can’t donate, a share on social media or telling young people you know about the opportunities we offer are great free ways of supporting our work. You can read more here.

  • Our team are also currently working hard to create further opportunities for young people to do, learn and enjoy STEM (and make the world better while they’re at it!) - we’ll be revealing these soon, so watch this space!

How we’re looking after our team and the young people we work with:

The safety and wellbeing of our team and the young people we work with is our number one priority. All of our team already work remotely as standard, so this will continue. None of our team will be attending face-to-face meetings on behalf of our organisation, however we’re very happy to use video conferencing, so please do still get in touch if you would like to collaborate with or support us!

Many of our team are directly affected by disruption to their education, and their lives more generally. We therefore ask that everyone works together and is patient and kind towards our team in these challenging times.

Rest assured, our commitment at Youth STEM 2030 to empower youth to use science, technology, engineering and maths to change the world, remains strong.
