Managing Editor (Physical Sciences)

I'm currently an undergraduate at Imperial College London and am interested in the physics of communication and climate change. In particular, I am interested in radio and encryption. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano and gardening.

As part of the Youth STEM Matters Team, Alex has:

  • Led the development of the Physical Sciences branch of the Research Team, with a particular focus on improving quality of peer review

  • Been recognised as the Youth STEM Matters Volunteer of the Month for January 2021

  • Assessed applications and conducted interviews for Physical Sciences Editors and Reviewers in the January 2021 application cycle

  • Developed and delivered a training session on Review Articles tailored to the Physical Sciences team

  • Prepared and led the January 2021 Research Team Briefing

  • Created journal Guidelines for the Presentation of Code

  • Assessed applications and conducted interviews for the Head of Science Communication (October 2020)

  • Conducted interviews for Reviewers in the August 2020 application cycle

  • Completed The Open University course ‘Ethics in Science?’ and participated in related group discussions

  • Shared his experiences as part of the Volunteer Team for World Youth Skills Day

  • Reviewed 3 papers as a Reviewer, with 100% completed on time (as of 8-12-2020)

  • Completed Reviewer Training in May 2020

    Before taking on the role of Managing Editor in July 2020, Alex was previously a Reviewer from April-June 2020.

Youth STEM Matters has really helped with my ability to work remotely - as an online journal, it’s an essential part of how we work. With coronavirus, remote working had to come quickly in order to keep up with university work - the skills learnt in the journal helped.
